About VENUS...
For over ten years I have combined precious materials, making jewelry and wearable art. My work is made to adorn the body, forming an intimate relationship with the viewer and wearer.
Plant life and industrial life have been my two major sources of inspiration. As I hope to capture the struggle between the two contrasting but ever producing forces, I am compelled by both.
Strong symbolism from ancient Egyptian and Pompeiian mythologies have also influenced my work. I am interested in the intricate forms of Egyptian jewelry and relics as well as the fine craftsmanship. The ancient and uninhibited Pompeiian culture intrigues my undiscovered self, in many works that are still open to interpretation....
My pieces are predominantly sterling silver with pure form in mind. I have used various materials to embellish these forms such as 14kt gold and semi-precious stones. These materials complement each other in color, texture and surface defining and unifying the piece.
Most recently I've been working with a wonderful lime green stone called Gaspeite. This stone occurs naturally in the Queensland area of Australia, at this time it has not been found anywhere else on the planet. The color is an unusually bright chartreuse and it enhances my careful selection of unique semi-precious stones to harmonize the brilliant colors and "one of a kind pieces".
Fabrication is my primary style of creating. Every work is fabricated by hand. I need to be able to feel the piece all the way through to it's finished state. The metal has a power, a force of its own and intuitively we work together creating order out of chaos and sometimes the opposite.
